About Divya Panchangam

Divya Panchangam is a daily companion for Hindus in India and around the world: an accurate panchang for your own city, the dates of festivals and vrats, muhurat for life's ceremonies, news from temples and communities, and a trusted place to find a pandit, a temple or a puja kit.

Who we are

Divya Panchangam is published by Kael Tripton Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17177071), based in London. We are a small team of editors and engineers with families in India and the diaspora. We built the site because the calendar our parents relied on was hard to find for Leicester, Toronto or Singapore, and harder still to trust.

What we set out to do

How the panchang is computed

Every value is calculated with the Swiss Ephemeris, the astronomical library used by professional astrologers and planetaria, with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsha adopted by the Government of India's Calendar Reform Committee. For each city we compute sunrise and sunset for its exact coordinates and time zone, then the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana at sunrise with their end times, Rahu kaal and other periods, hora, and the planets' sidereal positions.

Festival and vrat dates follow the classical rules of the dharmashastra texts (udaya tithi, pradosh, nishitha and the other time-of-day rules; Bhadra for Raksha Bandhan and Holika Dahan), applied to that city's own sunrise. This is why a festival can fall on a different date in London than in Delhi. Each festival page states the rule it uses. Muhurat lists apply the traditional tithi, nakshatra, weekday and exclusion rules and are a starting point for a conversation with your family priest. See our disclaimer.

Calculations run automatically every night and are published by early morning in every time zone. We check them against standard almanacs and fix discrepancies at the source.

How we write

News is based on at least two independent or official sources, linked in every story. AI tools help us draft, and we are open about exactly how and how people check the result: read our editorial standards. Advertising never influences what we write.
