Samagri list

A general list. Your pandit may add or leave out items for your tradition, so confirm it with them.

Significance and when it is done

Nadi Dosh Nivaran Puja (नाड़ी दोष निवारण पूजा) falls under the category of Graha shanti & dosha. In the Ashtakoot matching system used before marriage, the nadi koot is one of the eight points examined. When bride and groom share the same nadi, this puja is the traditional remedy a family may choose to arrange.

The puja is addressed to Mrityunjaya and Vishnu. It is a devotional and ritual response, not a prediction about any particular couple. Families who follow jyotish often consult a qualified jyotishi about their own charts before deciding whether and how to hold it.

Who performs it and who should attend

A qualified pandit performs the puja; the family arranges the samagri and the space. Because the puja is in person only and cannot be done online, those who wish to take part need to be present. Typically the couple, their parents, and close family members attend. The pandit leads the mantras, and the family follows the instructions given at each stage.

Vidhi step by step (outline)

Traditions differ, so the exact sequence depends on the pandit and the region. What follows is a general outline; the pandit will adapt it.

Typical duration is about 3 hours, depending on the tradition and how much is included.

Preparing the samagri and the space

Samagri is usually gathered before the pandit arrives. The list below reflects what is commonly asked for; a pandit may add or omit items according to their tradition.

For the space: clean the area chosen for the puja, set up the kalash and the havan kund where the pandit indicates, and keep the samagri arranged and within reach. Families often bathe and wear clean clothes before the puja begins.

Regional variations

North and South Indian households, and Smarta and Vaishnava traditions, may order the steps differently, use different mantras, or place more or less emphasis on the havan. Amanta and purnimanta calendar conventions can also affect how a family schedules the day. These differences are normal; the pandit's own tradition usually shapes the version performed.

After the puja: prasad, daan, dos and don'ts

After the aarti, the naivedya and fruits are distributed as prasad. Daan may be given as part of the puja; the optional gold or silver cow and the grain for daan are among the items listed. The pandit will explain what is customary in their tradition.

Pandit dakshina is set by each pandit individually and varies by region; the page shows current indicative figures separately.
